I just got my ferritin back. It's at .09. WTF. My periods are so so heavy but I've been dealing with them for so long, I think I just adjusted to it? I use a Super Jennie cup, the large and fill that sucker every 2 hrs for the first 2 days. I'm going to look into an ablation but couldn't get into a new ob/gyn until later this month. I'll be following along on your journey.

I've suffered from nearly debilitating low iron/ferritin, only to be told "oh you're ok or just borderline low." No. Stop making me fight when I don't have it in me to do so. I also just had a series of 3 infusions, which dramatically helped. I go for another 2 this month, which I had to fight for. It's frustrating. Thank you for writing about this!

My husband was hospitalized for ferritin that low! Our doctor called at 9pm saying he needed to get to a hospital immediately--she had just been alerted to his test results. He got many iron infusions over the course of several days. I can hardly believe your doctor would suggest anything different for you, but 1) our doctor is special and wonderful (she had his ferritin levels tested automated) and 2) I'm married to a white man. I wonder what would have happened if it had been me, instead.

I Love your ability to write about this topic openly and honestly. I have suffered for about 5 years with similar issues. I had to fight for care. IUD helped me get back to a relatively normal life again but I’m still weak from the whole experience. Please keep writing. I wish I was ready to, but glad somebody is. This process is so healing for us. I wish you continued strength and health.
